Handwoven window coverings and natural wall coverings defined by depth, light and material presence — architectural layers made to shape light, soften structure and bring a quiet richness to the room.

Rooted in natural fibres and time-honoured artisanal techniques, hand-woven on traditional looms in Oregon — a house that works in material rather than pattern. Not decorative finishes. Architectural layers.

Hartmann & Forbes begins each piece by selecting only the finest sustainable fibres — rapidly renewable, grown within responsibly managed ecosystems, and hand-selected for the subtle variations in colour and texture that give every design its depth and character.
Following dyeing, sun-bleaching and hand-tying, a loom master custom-weaves each design to the dimensions of the window. Final finishing is completed by skilled American craftspeople, so every shade is resolved to its unique requirements — material, scale and intention perfectly aligned.
These are not decorative finishes. They are architectural layers, designed to shape light, soften structure and bring a sense of calm and material richness to the interior.

Every installation is unique, bearing the gentle imprint of the hand that wove it — a celebration of natural fibres and the traditional techniques that honour their inherent beauty. No two pieces are ever identical, a quiet testament to the artisan's touch and the organic character of the materials themselves.
Designed to age gracefully, these surfaces bring enduring warmth and material richness — offering a sense of continuity and permanence that deepens over time.
Grasscloth, abaca, jute, linen and paper — selected for tone, texture and the way they age within the architecture.
Each panel and shade is woven by hand on traditional looms. Variation is intrinsic — no two metres are identical.
Specified to the wall or to the opening, the material is cut, joined and installed as part of the architecture rather than applied to it.

Specified by leading interior designers and architects worldwide, Hartmann & Forbes is chosen for luxury residences, boutique hotels, private yachts and hospitality spaces where atmosphere and materiality are paramount.
Handwoven surfaces provide a refined, textural foundation — supporting architecture and furnishings with quiet authority. Never competing, always complementing.

Valley & Laurel represents Hartmann & Forbes throughout the UK and Ireland, offering considered guidance on curation, sampling and bespoke specification.
